Print advert

Over the course of creating flat plans I have had to come up with which two designs I am going with.

This is the first design which I am going with for my Print adverts. I have chosen this as I feel as if both these landmarks go together on something like a print advert. Also if I was to use a long shot for these landmarks then the entire landmark will be in frame which is what will need to happen if I want my print advert to look professional and appealing. The only issue with using these landmarks is that they are quite a distance away from each other. However I feel as if I am able to solve this problem if I use my time wisely.

This is the second flat plan idea which I will use as my final product. The reasoning behind this is purely because of the resemblance that these two landmarks have to do with the beach. The beach itself is a big part of Sunderland as it is one of the key landmarks within the area. The people who have taken these photos have clearly edited them. They have edited the lighting which has an effect on the sky. This makes the photos look more optimistic and positive. I could do something similar to this when it comes to piecing together the final product to make the print advert more appealing. These locations are quite difficult to get to however they are both right next to each other so I will be able to take them straight after each other.

Slogan Creation

Judging from the existing products which I have looked at and analysed, I have to create a slogan which encourages the audience to discover and explore their local culture. I will create potential Slogans and choose a font which I think will fit with my Print advert and link to regional identity.

I used cool text in order to design this slogan. I came up with an appropriate tagline in order to link the design to regional identity. I chose this font as it has the same colour scheme as one of the flat plans that I have decided to go with for my final design. The font used is called 'chrome one'. I will create another design with the same slogan however the font will be different.

This is another design that I created using cool text. The design is called 'cool metal'. I really like how the colours fade into each other. It makes it a little different to the original colour on the flat plans. I am not sure which one of the designs I am going to go with for my final product so in order to decide I am going to replace the original fonts on the flat plans with these images to see how they both turn out.

I really like both fonts however I feel like the first slogan just works better with the flat plan. The font itself is simple but the colour scheme just matches with the pictures that are already on there. The second design matches the sky in the photos and it is more difficult to see until the letters fade into a different colour. Therefore it just wouldn't work and the first design would be a way more suitable option. I will need to make the text larger for my final design so the text is easier to read.

Here is the first design which I could potentially use for my other print advert. I really like the font as the letters stand out and are easy to read. The colour will definitely go with the design as I have used an orange font for the flat plan of the other print advert design. Just to be sure with this I will add this font to a flat plan so I know the font will go with the photos that I am going to use. The font was from cool text and it is called 'Keen'. I will look on cool text for another font in order to rival the design.

This is another font which I could potentially used that was downloaded on cool text. The font is called 'glossy'. The colour of the font is different as this one stood out. The font is clear and easily to read. It won't take up most of the print advert and the images placed onto the page. Therefore the images will still be visible enough for the audience can make out the actual landmark itself. I will add the two fonts created to a flat plan on PowerPoint so I can decide which one I am going to use for my Print advert.

Here is what the print advert will look like if I was to use this font. The colours are totally different to the photos chosen however it works. The font stands out and is very in your face whilst the images on the print advert still manage to be fully visible. The black outline that goes around the orange font fits so it stops the font from clashing with the images that have been placed onto the print advert.

As I have made a flat plan to decide whether this slogan font could potentially compete with the other font and I have come to the realization that the previous font is the one I am going to stick with. This design just isn't as appealing on the eye as the other design. The colour seems a bit boring and the scheme is too similar to the landmark in the photo therefore it sort of blends in and then effects the poster itself.

Shooting Schedule

In order for me to create a suitable shooting schedule I have to take things into consideration such as transport prices and the time it will take in order to get there and back to college as some of these will be taken during college hours. I will have to make more than one trip out due to the distance between the landmarks which I have chosen to be on my Print advert.

Here is the shooting schedule which I have created. It is pretty straight forward as I only need to go to four locations and make two trips. The reason I have chosen the date for the first 3 locations is because it is one bus there and back from college. I have a lot of lesson time that day so there is still time to get back and upload the images onto my computer by the time the lesson is finished. The locations will be less during that time so that will be easier for me to get a good spot in order to take the photo and have it look appealing.

I chose the date for the second landmark as the landmark is awkward to get too and I am unsure about the time it will take for me to get there and back so therefore I have chosen a date when I am off college. A positive of choosing this date is that I am in no hurry. Therefore I can take more time in finding the right photo for what will go on my blog.

Photos Taken

Here are all the photos which I have taken which could potentially go on my blog. Some of these are slightly different as the camera is in moved in a different angle to cancel out the little things such people in the picture and trees in the frame. I used a long shot for each of these photos which is useful as the full landmark is in the frame and the landmark is the most important part of the print advert. Regardless of which photos I choose to use I will have to edit the sky to make the advert seem more appealing.

Here is the first image which I have chosen to use. I have chosen this one as I needed to cut out the people in the image. There is still people in the image but they are less visible than in the other pictures taken. This will make it easier for me to make them less visible due to the fact I have to shrink and resize the image to make it fill half the page. Then I won't have to worry about cutting them out of the photo itself.

Here is another chosen photo which will go on the print advert. I have chosen this photo as the image is more zoomed in on the pier itself and the image remains clear due to the weather conditions and the fact I had to zoom in. In order to put this on my print advert I will have to remove the sand out of the picture. The reasons for this is due to the size of the image and the other image which will be on the print advert focuses on the beach where this one will label and focus on the pier.

Here is the third photo which I have chosen for my other print advert. I chose this because the railing is less visible and the landmark is in the center of the frame. This will make it easier for me to resize the photo to take up exactly half of the print advert. I will be able to get rid of the parts that are in the way of the photo like the branches for example. This will make the photo more appealing and is it will only be the landmark in the frame.

Here is the last photo I am picking to have on my print advert. I am choosing this as the long shot was the perfect place to get a shot of this particular landmark. There are people in the photo however the resizing of the image will be able to get them out of the frame and focus on the landmark looking effective. I will not crop out the hill as it adds effectiveness to the frame and makes the poster look nicer and more appealing to meet the brief. Like all the other photos that I have chosen I will have to edit the sky to make the setting look a lot brighter.

Creating the Final Product

1st Print Advert

To start off I resized and cropped both of these images. I cropped around half the image for the photo on the left to zoom in on the actual landmark and the quality of the image will not reduce due to the resizing. Fitting these images to the page size is a good starting point as it gives me an understanding of the size of the print advert and how it will be presented. It will also help me out a lot if I was to edit these images as I can apply the changes easily as I already have the sizes of the images worked out.

I have added edits to the sky to the image on the left hand side. I did this so the images makes it looks as is there are less clouds surrounding the landmark. I did this so the photo is more appealing and easy on the eye for the target audience. The brightness of the image makes the outer layers stand out which will help in terms of meeting the brief for the target audience as the image is more appealing. I completed this edit by firstly went over to the adjustment section and clicked on selective colour. I then over to the switched properties section. I was given a selection of sample colours to help adjust the colour gradient. I chose the colour titled  cyans as it was the closest to the colour I was going for. I experimented with the 4 colour meters which helped me decide on the final colour scheme. I set the meters to Cyan 100%, Magenta 0%, Yellow 0% and Black 100%.

Before I added  my slogan I decided that I needed to make the images stand out more as the images looked too different to each other. I solved this problem by adjusting the brightness of the images. I chose the colour as light blue on the colour bar and then set the brightness to 49 after experimenting with the other numbers on the bar.

Here is the first print advert that I have created. The images were sorted out and edited before I placed my slogan onto the print advert. The slogan works with the images and and doesn't blend in. I believe this is because of the edits I have made. I do think that the images would've been visible however it would've been harder to see and read. This Print advert relates to the brief as it is an influential advertisement on Sunderland Culture. The images are related to each other as they both resemble a landmark of the North East. Therefore this print advert relates to the brief of  Regional Identity because of the locations used. I used a similarity with these two images as they both resemble the beach which is a huge part of Sunderland as it is one of the most recognizable and popular landmarks within the community. This will be appealing to the audience as the landmarks will encourage them to gain an interest in their culture and learn more about the subject of Sunderland Culture.

2nd Print Advert

To begin creating my second Print advert I decided to take a different approach to editing the images. I decided to edit the images separately. This is so I can focus on each image differently and I can keep checking for potential changes that I can make before I place it onto the page that will have everything else on it. I only made slight edits to this image. I needed to edit the sky as there were dark clouds so I had to adjust that. In order to do this I had to select a light blue colour on the colour bar. I then experimented with the brightness and contrast bar. I ended up setting the brightness bar to 80 and the contrast bar to -3.

Like the previous image I edited the sky in the photo to make the sky brighter so the final advert so it is more appealing to the audience. Yet again I experimented with the brightness and contrast bars and ended up by setting the brightness to 51 and the contrast to 39.

I placed both of the images on the same page before I add my slogan to see whether I could make any potential improvements. I had a change around with the brightness and contrast in order for the images to not look too different from each other. I adjusted this and decided on the brightness to be at 46 and the contrast to be set at - 11.

Here is what the print advert will look like. I feel like I have positioned the slogan in the correct place as the font stands out but it doesn't overwrite the images as they are still clearly visible. The edits which I have added definitely helps with making it look appealing to the audience as the sky looks brighter more clear. Like the other print advert that I made, this will encourage the audience to learn about their culture due to the popularity and history of these landmarks which is why I chose to use them for my print advert. I will gather feedback on both print adverts which will help me to make improvements.
